Planning for AI

Combat tank on rocky landscape

Several of us have heard the military wisdom attributed to General Omar Bradley “Amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics.” All the large technology companies and lobbyists are talking to everyone that will listen including the President of the United States about the value of AI. Information saturation is the strategy of the day as they attempt to set the narrative for all of mankind – got ambition?

The message is penetrating the populace. Case in point, a close friend called the other day and asked me “if it was true what Larry Ellison says, that AI can help cure cancer?” Her spouse happens to be struggling with cancer. In fairness, AI producing cures for cancer is not exactly what Larry was getting. The facts are this: AI is an extremely expensive journey that we are just at the initial stages of adopting. The hype is at an all-time high, the value for most is incredibly low. Masayoshi-son, Altman, and Ellison attempted to clarify the promise of AI on the White House lawn. We are a long way from using AI to cure cancer. At best, AI might be able to help a medical professional create a diagnosis. Ask your Oncologist for their opinion if you do not believe me.

As a business, the best thing you can do in my view is to experiment with early adoption in a controlled setting. Do not be tempted to turn your unsuspecting customers into Guinee pigs with a chat bot. Try using AI or machine learning to improve your internal business operation and help your employees and partners to be more productive. Need a plan? We can help.
